Dear Speaker DeMuth and Senate Minority Leader Johnson,
In the Special Session that Governor Walz is calling to respond to the recent shooting of innocent children at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis on August 27th, Child Protection League is urging you and your caucus to repeal Minnesota’s ban on what has been falsely labeled “Conversion Therapy.” [MS 214.078].
The Special Session is a perfect opportunity to compassionately and wisely respond to the horrifying and heartbreaking shooting with a repeal of that statute. This outrageous ban forces counselors and patients to “choose” an affirmation only path. It forbids any Minnesota counselor or psychiatrist to help minors become comfortable with and to accept their healthy bodies as they were created because, this statute makes that choice criminal. It is hard to imagine a more insidious attack on our children.
Robert Westman, the Minneapolis trans-shooter, is a most recent example of the consequences of this ban. He stated in his manifesto, “I am tired of being trans, I wish I never brain-washed myself. I can’t cut my hair now as it would be embarrassing defeat…” He expressed a desire to “detrans” but thought he had crossed the point of no return. No counselor or psychiatrist could legally assist him in exiting the path he was on.
“Conversion therapy” has been intentionally and deceitfully framed to conjure up images of religious zealots forcing children to renounce their imagined gender identities through emotional and spiritual torture. In reality, it helps children understand and confirm what is genetically observable and real. That this is criminalized is shocking
Most of the mental health industry, including most of its professional agencies, has adopted the false gender narrative. They endorse the gender radical dogma. For this reason, the expansion of mental health services will compound the entrapment of young people into gender ideology, particularly while the “conversion therapy” ban is in place.
There is good reason that the Trump administration is ending many of the federal mental health grants. Many of these grants violate the President’s efforts to remove DEI and radical gender ideology from the schools. We urge you to not work against the President by throwing state money at the corrupt mental health industry.
Be advised that the mental health industry is Big Pharma. At the slightest sign of gender confusion, children and young people are given powerful drugs with black box warnings. They are plied with wrong-sex hormones that wreak havoc on their bodies, sterilizing chemicals such as Lupron and SSRI’s-anti-psychotic drugs whose side effects commonly involve depression, psychotic behavior, suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation and out of body experiences.
If we really care about the mental health of every student, we will not force them to accept false narratives about gender and/or force those who are confused down a one size fits all treatment plan.
